Meraner Pferdesport
Seit dem fernen Jahr 1935 fasziniert der Große Preis von Meran Forst alljährlich die Pferdesportfreunde und schenkt ihnen immer wieder neue Emotionen. Die Geschichte des Pferdesports in Meran beginnt allerdings sehr viel früher. 1896 wurde das erste Pferderennen zur Freude der adeligen Kurgäste ausgetragen und darauf folgten auf der 1900 erbauten neuen Rennbahn zahlreiche Meetings mit Flach, - Hindernis und Trabrennen.Die „moderne Ära" beginnt dann im Jahre 1935, als das damalige faschistische Regime einen neuen Rennplatz erbauen ließ, der in erster Linie zur Förderung des Hindernissports gedacht war, aber auch wichtige Flachrennen beheimaten sollte. Der Große Preis von Meran wurde von Beginn an mit der Lotterie von Meran gekoppelt und mit dem höchsten Preisgeld der Staatslotterien dotiert. Im Automobilsport könnte man den Großen Preis von Meran mit dem Großen Preis von Monaco vergleichen: er ist verschieden von allen anderen Rennen und übt dadurch eine besondere Faszination aus. Es gibt auch bedeutendere und besser dotierte Hindernisrennen, aber der Große Preis von Meran Forst genießt nicht nur bei Besitzern, Trainern und Jockeys, sondern auch bei den Pferdesportfreunden einen besonderen Stellenwert.

Why? What does this bell tower in Lake Resia tells us?
A well-designed path winds around the largest lake in South Tyrol. It invites to cycling, hiking and above all running. The 15.3 km circuit around the lake is one of the most beautiful routes for a running event in South Tyrol.
Towards the north you can admire a magnificent panorama towards Austria and Switzerland, while towards the south there is a unique view to the highest mountain, Ortlers and the Gran Zebru. The start and finish area of the circuit of Lake Resia is located directly at the historic church tower in Graun.
